Stella’s Home!!!!!!

So excited to see our Girl!

So excited to see our Girl!

Even Papas excited to see Stella!

Even Papa's excited to see Stella!

Finally!!!!!!!!  We drove out to the kennel to get our little Stella yesterday afternoon.   Rob was tormenting me by thinking of things he needed to do at the last minute before we left.  I was anxious to get there right as the gates opened!!!   We hadn’t seen Stella in TEN DAYS!  TEN WHOLE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!  That’s a long time.   For Stella, in dog years….she hadn’t seen us in MONTHS!!!!  Would she remember us?  Would she be having so much fun she wouldn’t want to come home?  Had she grown so much we wouldn’t recognize her?
I had a nightmare while we were away…we went to go get Stella….and instead of picking up this:
Stella the Schnoodle!

Stella the Schnoodle!

They were telling us THIS was our dog:
Uh. Our Dog is not black and white......

Uh. Our Dog is not black and white......

And in the dream I’m all, “Um, our Stella is all black with a teeny bit of white….this isn’t our dog.”  And they’re all, “Why sure this is her…don’t you know your own dog?” ….and then I woke up in a panic that they loved our girl so much they were trying to keep her and pass off this other dog as ours.
Whew…..no worries.  When we got to the kennel…there was OUR Stella!  Cute as can be!  She did look taller….she DID remember us….and she did not seem to be holding a grudge at having not been taken on vacation with us.  We loaded her into the car…..
Look at her little eyes....shes exhausted!

I think she was too excited to sleep!

She did manage to find the energy to snurfle the back of Papas neck.

At one point she had her front paws on his shoulders and her tongue in his ear. She loves her Papa!

Eventually she was able to lay down and enjoy a little Tummeh Rub from Mama and relax for the rest of the ride home.

She had a tough Welcome Home…..got a nice brushing from Papa, some playtime in the yard, a big bowl of kibbles, some more Tummeh Rubs, lots of kisses, more playtime and managed to squeeze in a few pre-bedtime naps.  The super nice woman who runs the kennel said Stella had a great time playing with the other dogs….and commented on what a great personality Stella has!!!  We think so too!

This has nothing to do with Stella, but I wanted to post a photo of the beautiful lily that had bloomed in the front yard while we were gone….we didn’t even know we HAD lilies in the front yard!

A Beautiful Star Gazer Lily...we planted some of these in the backyard....they havent bloomed yet!

Counting down the Hours!!!!

Where has Stella been????

Whats that? Im going where????

What's that? I'm going where????

Little did Miss Stella know when we loaded her into the car last Thursday….that she was not just going on a joyride with Mama and Papa….and she was not going to the dog park.  She was going on VACATION!  Sadly, not with the Mama and the Papa.  While Mama and Papa took a greatly needed vacation down South….Miss Stella went on her own little vacation to Maranatha Farm Kennel!!!

http://www.maranathakennels.com/

This is where we boarded our Sadie.  They are WONDERFUL people!!!!  They love dogs and run an outstanding facility for dogs!!!  They do doggy day care, board, groom, train, raise puppies….they do it all!   They love dogs and make great efforts to make sure that your dog is comfortable and happy.  They are also very understanding of Mama’s like me who on occasion cry when dropping the dog off for a week!  This time I managed not to cry!!!  Yay me!

Miss Stella had no idea what was coming.  I worried that having been a rescue dog from a shelter that maybe she would think she was going back to a shelter…..

We dropped her off…..went on vacation…and missed her everyday.  I missed the pitter patter of her little feet when she follows me around….missed her cute little face…..snuggling with her….giving her tummeh rubs….even Rob admitted that although he was enjoying vacation…he missed Stella too.

We were supposed to be home Friday to get her early Saturday a.m….due to a mix up on the booking…we didn’t get home until it was too late to get her yesterday.   So here we wait today….until we can get her at 3pm!

Apparently she’s having a great time at the kennel!  She’s playing with the other dogs during the day and entertaining everyone with her cute puppeh personality!

We’re counting down the hours til we have our Stella back with us!!!

Less than 24 Hours til Stella!!!!!

Stella! At this time tomorrow….we’ll have Stella!  Late yesterday they loaded her and a bunch of other dogs into a van for the long drive North.  We meet the rescue people at 9am tomorrow!!!  I have no idea what to expect.

Last weekend I cleaned and bleached out the kennel for her.  Last night I went shopping and got her a little chew toy that you put treats into to entertain her, a waterdish that hooks onto the door of her kennel, a new pretty collar, a little pack of liver treats…yum…liver treats!!!

During the day I got to worrying about what her first weekend would be like.   It’s going to be a busy one.  We have friends in town….people coming over for RibFest Part II Saturday night….not the most mellow of weekends for a little dog who’s been in a van for two days.

In a google search for calming a dog I found this….Doggie Downers:

Comfort Calm

Remember that old skit from the days when Saturday Night Live used to be funny?  Puppy Uppers and Doggie Downers?

Puppy Uppers/Doggie Downers

I’m going to drug her.  Not really drug her….it’s like giving her a cup of SleepyTime tea, but not quite like giving her a capful of Nyquil.  Maybe we won’t need it at all.  Maybe she’ll be tired, but calm and happy.  Happy to be in Maine!  I’m going to bring them with us just in case.

I told Rob my plan when I got home and immediately he snorted, “Uh, do you think Caesar would DRUG a dog?”  Why as a matter of fact ROBERT:

Caesar

Your “Hero” DOES drug dogs….he also if you have not been in a PetCo or Pet Quarters lately, sells dog food, beds, leashes, shampoos, enough already Caesar…Relax!!!!!

So anywho…that’s my plan…to have the Doggie Downers on hand just in case for her first busy weekend at home and from there go back to good old exhausting her with exercise to get rid of the puppy energy.

I’m super excited!  It’s going to be a great weekend!!!!
